Why Cheese and Fruit?

There certainly fails to be a better pairing than cheese and fruit – the flavours complement one another, bringing out different flavours in the cheese and vice versa. You have firm versus soft, firm versus juicy against salty and savoury. We want you to indulge and experiment in some of our tastiest cheese and fruit combinations! But how do you know which cheese and fruit pairs well together? Expert chef, Kelly Lewis, shares some tips for the perfect cheese and fruit pairings!

4 Beginner Tips for Cheese and Fruit Pairings

Fruit: Think seasonally! Winter calls for persimmons, pears, apples, and quarters of pomegranate, as well as dried fruits. Apples and pears pair well with hard cheese like Gouda or Goat’s cheese. Try some of these summertime fruits.

Cheese: When pairing specific cheese with particular fruits, it’s best to go with three different cheeses such as soft cheese, hard cheese and crumbly cheese.

Jams: Fig, apricot and rasperry jam goes deliciously with many cheeses and meats, so it’s best to stick to these. Sweeter jams like strawberry, are best paired with young, mild cheddar.

Salty/savoury: The sweetness of the fruits is enhanced with crackers, bread, crunchy bread sticks, roasted nuts, olives, mustard, or Italian meats which can be used to make the appetizers more substantial and give a delicious savoury flavour.
